Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why should I give to the United Way?

Funds raised through the Tioga United Way stay in our area to address local problems. By bringing the community together, we accomplish much more than we can alone. Tioga United Way makes your caring count.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Giving to the United Way and other nonprofit organizations entitles taxpayers who file itemized returns to a tax deduction.

If I volunteer my time, should I donate financially?

Those who volunteer are more likely to give. They see the needs first hand. Giving takes a number of different forms: time, talent and money. Many of these agencies could not exist if it were not for the thousands of volunteer hours "given" every year.

Does the money go where they say it will go?

More than 25 volunteers from our community spend many hours studying and prioritizing community needs, monitoring United Way funded agencies and considering funding requests. They then decide how to best invest the dollars to help the most people. This process helps to ensure that you, the contributor, are receiving accountability for the funds you contribute to the Tioga United Way.

Why should I donate?

Your gift helps strengthen your community by making programs and services available to the people who truly need them. If you are not currently using a United Way funded agency, chances are that a family member, friend or coworker is. Our communities' needs are greater every year. We need your help to ensure that the Tioga United Way services are there when needed the most.
