Success Story - ACCORD

Submitted by ACCORD

A woman came to the office to interview me. She was in the Tioga Leadership class and their assignment was to find out and write a report on some of the lesser known “not for profit” agencies. I asked her why she had chosen ACCORD.

She said that many years ago, she and her husband had split up and each had wanted the children to live with them. Although they agreed that it wouldn’t be best for the children if one child lived with Dad and one lived with Mom; that was all they could agree on. When their lawyers couldn’t help and they realized that a judge, who knew neither them nor their children, would be making the decision; they decided to come to us. At that point, she stopped talking and took from her wallet a very old, very faded agreement which ACCORD had helped them to draft. She said “I always carry it with me even though my children are grown now and on their own.”  Her eyes filled with tears and she said “We can never thank you enough for helping us. The fact that they grew into normal, healthy, well-adjusted adults is directly related to this agreement”.

And then there were two of us with tears in our eyes.
